Panch Kedar Temples & Spiritual Significance

 

The Panch Kedar temples in Uttarakhand are believed to have been built by the Pandavas to seek forgiveness from Lord Shiva. Completing the Panch Kedar Yatra is said to grant moksha and spiritual purification.

Itinerary of Panch Kedar Yatra 

Detailed Panch Kedar Yatra Itinerary (12 Days / 11 Nights)

 

Day 1: Rishikesh / Haridwar → Sonprayag (Drive)

Distance: 204 km | Duration: 7–8 hours

 

Your Panch Kedar Yatra begins with a scenic drive from Rishikesh/Haridwar to Sonprayag, passing through Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag. Witness the sacred river confluences and enjoy breathtaking mountain views throughout the journey. Sonprayag is the base for the Kedarnath trek.

 

Overnight stay: Sonprayag

Day 2: Sonprayag → Gaurikund → Kedarnath

Drive: 5 km | Trek: 17 km | Altitude: 3,583 m

​

Early morning drive to Gaurikund, the last motorable point. Begin the legendary Kedarnath trek, following the Mandakini River through forests, waterfalls, and stone paths. Upon arrival, visit the Kedarnath Temple, one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva.

 

Overnight stay: Kedarnath

 

Day 3: Kedarnath → Gaurikund → Ransi

Trek: 17 km | Drive: 65 km

 

After morning darshan, trek back to Gaurikund and continue by road to Ransi village, the starting point for treks to Madhyamaheshwar and Rudranath. Enjoy views of terraced fields and traditional Garhwali villages.

 

Overnight stay: Ransi

 

Day 4: Ransi → Bantoli via Gaundhar

Trek: 6 km

Today’s trek takes you through dense forests, suspension bridges, and charming hamlets like Gaundhar. Bantoli serves as the base camp for the Madhyamaheshwar trek.

Day 5: Bantoli → Madhyamaheshwar

Trek: 10 km | Altitude: 3,497 m

A spiritually enriching yet challenging trek leads you to Madhyamaheshwar Temple, where the navel of Lord Shiva is worshipped. Surrounded by majestic Himalayan peaks, the temple offers a deeply serene experience.

Overnight stay: Near Madhyamaheshwar Temple

Day 6: Madhyamaheshwar → Ransi → Chopta

Trek: 10 km | Drive: 40 km

 

Descend back to Ransi and drive to Chopta, often called the “Mini Switzerland of Uttarakhand.” Enjoy panoramic views of Nanda Devi, Chaukhamba, and Trishul peaks.

 

Overnight stay: Chopta

 

Day 7: Chopta → Tungnath → Chopta

Trek: 4 km (one way) | Altitude: 3,680 m

 

Trek to Tungnath Temple, the highest Shiva temple in the world. The well-paved trail offers spectacular Himalayan vistas. After darshan, trek back to Chopta.

 

Overnight stay: Chopta

 

Day 8: Chopta → Sagar → Panar Bugyal

Drive: 30 km | Trek: 10 km | Altitude: ~3,000 m

 

Drive to Sagar village and begin the trek to Panar Bugyal, one of the most beautiful alpine meadows in Uttarakhand. The trail passes through forests and open grasslands with stunning mountain views.

 

Overnight stay: Camps at Panar Bugyal

 

Day 9: Panar Bugyal → Rudranath → Panar Bugyal

Trek: 8 km (one way) | Altitude: 3,636 m

 

Trek to the mystical Rudranath Temple, where the face of Lord Shiva is worshipped. The trail is rugged yet incredibly scenic, passing through rhododendron forests and high ridges. Return to Panar Bugyal after darshan.

Overnight stay: Panar Bugyal

Day 10: Panar Bugyal → Sagar → Urgam

Trek: 10 km | Drive: 60 km

 

Descend to Sagar village and drive to Urgam Valley, known for its apple orchards and peaceful surroundings. Urgam is the base for Kalpeshwar Temple.

 

Overnight stay: Urgam

 

Day 11: Urgam → Kalpeshwar → Rudraprayag

Trek: 2 km | Drive: 110 km

 

An easy and scenic trek leads to Kalpeshwar Temple, the only Panch Kedar shrine accessible throughout the year. After darshan, return to Urgam and drive to Rudraprayag.

 

Overnight stay: Rudraprayag

 

Day 12: Rudraprayag → Rishikesh (Departure)

Drive: 140 km | Duration: 5–6 hours

 

After breakfast, drive back to Rishikesh, marking the successful completion of your Panch Kedar Yatra with unforgettable spiritual memories.

If your trek gets called off at the last moment due to a natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rains, snowfall, earthquake, landslides, strike, bandh etc.) we will not refund your money. Instead of money, Walking The Himalayas will issue a trek voucher for the full amount. You can easily redeem that voucher for the same amount for any of the treks available at the same price.

Cancellation charges are based on the total trek fee, irrespective of the amount paid either full or partial.

The cancellation policy of Walking The Himalayas is based on the original booking time and the original start date of the trek.

  • If you cancel a trek before 30 days of trek start date and get a full refund after deduction of 1.99% payment processing fee.

  • If you cancel a trek before 15 days of the trek start date and get a refund after a deduction of 20% of the total trek fee.

  • If you cancel a trek before 10 days of the trek start date and get a refund after a deduction of 40% of the total trek fee.

  • If you cancel a trek before 5 days of the trek start date and get a refund after a deduction of 60% of the total trek fee.

  • The Trek fee is non-refundable if you cancel within 4 days before the trek start date.

Trek cancellation due to weather:

  • In case of an incomplete trek due to weather conditions, you can opt for the same trek again throughout your lifetime on all our fixed departures for the same trek.

  • This attempt only covers the trek fee and will not include any rentals or the transportation amount paid earlier.

  • This is non-transferable.
