The Har Ki Dun Trek, also known as the Valley of Gods Trek, is one of the most scenic and culturally rich treks in the Garhwal Himalayas. Tucked deep inside the Govind National Park, the valley is surrounded by pristine peaks like Swargarohini, Bandarpunch, and Kala Nag.
Nestled deep in the Govind Pashu Vihar National Park of Uttarkashi, the Har Ki Dun Trek is a journey that beautifully blends mythology, nature, and adventure. Known as the “Valley of Gods”, this stunning cradle-shaped valley is believed to be the very path that the Pandavas took to reach heaven, as described in the Mahabharata.

How to reach Sankri?
Sankri is the starting point of the trek, so to reach Har ki Dun first you need to reach Sankri.
Airport- The nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport. The distance of Sankri from Jolly Grant Airport is 223 kilometres. You can easily go by taxi from there.
Railway Station - Nearest railway station is the Dehradun railway station. The distance from Dehradun railway station to Sankri is 198 kilometres. From there you can easily go by taxi or car.
Detailed Itinerary for Har Ki Dun Trek
🗓️ Day 1: Arrival at Dehradun – Drive to Base Camp Sankri (210 km | 8–9 hours)
Your Har Ki Dun adventure begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun to Sankri, the base camp for the trek. The 210 km journey takes around 8–9 hours, passing through the picturesque hill towns of Mussoorie, Purola, and Mori, alongside the shimmering Tons River.
The route offers breathtaking views of pine forests, terraced fields, and charming Garhwali villages, providing a first glimpse of Himalayan beauty. Upon reaching Sankri (6,400 ft) — a quaint village surrounded by snow-capped peaks — check in to your guesthouse or homestay.
Spend the evening exploring the village, interacting with locals, and preparing for the trek ahead. Enjoy a hearty dinner and rest well, as the real adventure begins tomorrow.

🗓️ Day 2: Sankri to Dharkot Village (16 km Drive) & Trek to Seema (4 km Trek)
After an early breakfast at Sankri, we begin the day with a short and scenic drive to Dharkot Village, the starting point of our trek. The drive winds through lush pine forests and charming mountain hamlets, offering glimpses of local village life in the Garhwal Himalayas.
From Dharkot, the real trekking adventure begins! The 4 km trek to Seema takes you through dense forests of oak, rhododendron, and walnut trees, with the soothing sound of the Tons River flowing alongside. The trail offers beautiful views of terraced fields and snow-draped peaks in the distance.
By afternoon, we reach Seema (8,000 ft) — a serene campsite nestled beside the river. Set up your tents and enjoy a hot cup of tea while soaking in the tranquil surroundings. Spend the evening exploring the nearby Osla village, famous for its ancient wooden temples and rich mythology.

🗓️ Day 3: Seema to Boslo via Ancient Osla Village (10 km Trek)
Today’s trail takes you deeper into the mythical landscapes of the Har Ki Dun Valley. After breakfast, we begin our 10 km trek from Seema to Boslo, passing through the legendary Osla village — one of the most beautiful and historically rich villages in the Himalayas.
The villagers here are known for their warm hospitality and traditional wooden houses, adorned with intricate carvings. You can also visit the ancient temple dedicated to Lord Someshwar (Shiva), believed to be linked to the Pandavas of the Mahabharata.
The trail gradually ascends through lush forests of pine and rhododendron, with the majestic Swargarohini Peak often visible in the distance. As you gain altitude, the landscape opens into alpine meadows filled with wildflowers and chirping mountain birds.
By late afternoon, you’ll reach Boslo (10,000 ft) — a beautiful meadow campsite offering stunning sunset views and a peaceful atmosphere. Enjoy a hearty dinner under a sky full of stars before resting for the night.

🗓️ Day 4: Boslo to Har Ki Dun Valley & Maninda Lake – Return to Boslo (12 km Both Ways)
Today is the most scenic and rewarding day of the trek. After an early breakfast, we start our journey from Boslo towards the Har Ki Dun Valley, one of the most enchanting valleys in the Garhwal Himalayas. The trail gradually ascends through alpine meadows dotted with wildflowers, with panoramic views of Swargarohini, Hata Peak, and Jaundhar Glacier.
As you enter the Har Ki Dun Valley (11,675 ft), the landscape opens up dramatically — vast green meadows surrounded by snow-clad peaks, with the gentle sound of the Har Ki Dun River flowing through the valley. This is the place where, according to legend, the Pandavas took their final journey toward heaven.
After exploring the valley, we continue a short trek to the pristine Maninda Lake, a high-altitude glacial lake known for its crystal-clear waters and peaceful surroundings. Spend some time soaking in the serenity and capturing breathtaking views before heading back to Boslo by evening.
Enjoy a warm dinner at camp and share stories under the starlit Himalayan sky.

On the final day of your Har Ki Dun adventure, we begin with a short 4 km trek from Seema to Dharkot Village. The trail gently descends through lush pine and oak forests, giving you a last chance to enjoy the tranquil beauty of the Garhwal Himalayas.
Upon reaching Dharkot, we board our vehicle for the 16 km scenic drive back to Sankri, retracing the winding roads that pass through charming mountain villages and river valleys. This drive offers one last glimpse of the Himalayan landscape that made this trek unforgettable.
At Sankri, you’ll check into your guesthouse or homestay for a farewell meal. Celebrate the memories made and the breathtaking sights experienced during your journey through the Valley of Gods.

Afterward, board your vehicle for the drive back to Dehradun (210 km, approx. 8–9 hours). The scenic route passes through lush forests, charming villages, and the picturesque rivers of Uttarakhand, offering plenty of opportunities to reflect on your unforgettable journey.
Upon arrival in Dehradun, your Har Ki Dun Trek concludes. From here, you can continue your onward journey or explore the city before departing.

Not included in the package
Transport to and from Sankri – Walking The Himalayas will arrange shared taxis for trekkers. These shared taxis will pick you up from Dehradun Railway Station or Airport. Taxi from Dehradun to Sankri costs around Rs. 6000 - 7000 per taxi and Rs. 9000 - 10000 per tempo one way. So if you are in a group of 6 - 10 persons then a taxi/tempo will cost around 1000 per person for one side.
Food during transit to and from the base camp – Walking the Himalayas doesn't include meals purchased during the journey to Sankri and back.
Backpack offloading charges – If you wish to offload your backpack, there will be an additional charge of Rs. 1,500 - 2000. The backpack cannot weigh more than 9 - 10 kgs. Walking The Himalayas does not allow Suitcases/Strollers/Duffel bags during the trek, so if you are bringing these then you have to take care on your own. These charges can vary for last minute offloading in case you decide to offload your bag after reaching Sankri (Rs.350 per day inclusive of taxes).
Personal expenses - Your trekking package doesn't include any kind of personal expenses.
Cancellation
If your trek gets called off at the last moment due to a natural calamity/unforeseen circumstances (like rains, snowfall, earthquake, landslides, strike, bandh etc.) we will not refund your money. Instead of money, Walking The Himalayas will issue a trek voucher for the full amount. You can easily redeem that voucher for the same amount for any of the treks available at the same price.

Cancellation charges are based on the total trek fee, irrespective of the amount paid either full or partial.
The cancellation policy of Walking The Himalayas is based on the original booking time and the original start date of the trek.

If you cancel a trek before 30 days of trek start date and get a full refund after deduction of 1.99% payment processing fee.

If you cancel a trek before 15 days of the trek start date and get a refund after a deduction of 20% of the total trek fee.

If you cancel a trek before 10 days of the trek start date and get a refund after a deduction of 40% of the total trek fee.

If you cancel a trek before 5 days of the trek start date and get a refund after a deduction of 60% of the total trek fee.

The Trek fee is non-refundable if you cancel within 4 days before the trek start date.

In case of an incomplete trek due to weather conditions, you can opt for the same trek again throughout your lifetime on all our fixed departures for the same trek.

Things to carry on Har Ki Dun Trek
Here is a list of essential items that you should carry on the Har Ki Dun trek:
1. Backpack: A sturdy and spacious backpack to carry your essentials.
2. Trekking shoes: A good pair of trekking shoes with a strong grip to navigate through rugged terrain.
3. Warm clothing: Warm layers of clothing such as thermal innerwear, fleece jacket, down jacket, and waterproof pants.
4. Trekking pants: Lightweight, quick-dry, and comfortable trekking pants.
5. Headwear: A woolen hat or beanie to keep your head and ears warm, and a sun hat or cap to protect your face from the sun.
6. Gloves: A pair of gloves to protect your hands from the cold.
7. Socks: A few pairs of thick, warm socks to keep your feet warm and dry.
8. Sunglasses: To protect your eyes from the sun and snow glare.
9. Personal medication: Any personal medication that you may need, such as painkillers, allergy medication, or altitude sickness medication.
10. First aid kit: A small first aid kit with bandages, antiseptic cream, and other essentials.
11. Water bottles: At least two water bottles with a capacity of 1 liter each to stay hydrated.
12. Trekking poles: To help you navigate through steep and uneven terrain.
13. Snacks: Energy bars, dry fruits, and other high-energy snacks to keep you going during the trek.
14. Sunscreen: To protect your skin from the sun.
15. Headlamp or flashlight: To navigate through the campsites at night.
It is important to pack light and carry only the essentials to avoid a heavy load. You can also rent or purchase some of these items at the base camp or from local shops.
