📅 Day-by-Day Adventure

Day 1: Arrival in Leh | Acclimatization & Local Exploration

Welcome to Leh (11,500 ft) — the heart of Ladakh. Upon arrival at Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport, you’ll be greeted by crisp mountain air and breathtaking Himalayan views.

After a smooth transfer, check in to your designated hotel and spend the day resting and acclimatizing to the high altitude — a crucial step for a safe and enjoyable journey ahead.

In the evening, step out (at your own pace) to explore the vibrant Leh Market, browse local handicrafts, and soak in the town’s mountain charm. Visit the historic Leh Palace and end your day with a serene sunset at Shanti Stupa, offering panoramic views of Leh bathed in golden light.

Return to the hotel for a warm dinner and overnight stay, as you prepare for the adventure that begins tomorrow.

Day 2: Leh to Sham Valley | Exploring the Borders of Leh

Start your day with a hearty breakfast before heading out on a scenic ride to Sham Valley, one of the most fascinating regions around Leh. Covering around 90 km (round trip) in 4–5 hours, today’s journey is a perfect mix of natural wonders, history, and cultural experiences.

Your first stop is the breathtaking confluence of the Zanskar and Indus Rivers, known as the highest river rafting point in the world, where the contrasting colors of the two rivers create a mesmerizing sight. Continue to the Hall of Fame, a proud museum maintained by the Indian Army that showcases the bravery and sacrifices of Indian soldiers in the region.

Next, experience the famous Magnetic Hill, a unique gravitational anomaly where vehicles seem to move uphill on their own when kept in neutral. Pay your respects at Gurudwara Pathar Sahib, a revered Sikh shrine, and enjoy the warmth of the community by partaking in the langar.

After a day filled with exploration and memorable rides, return to Leh by evening and unwind with a delicious dinner, preparing for the adventures ahead. 🏍️🏔️

Day 3: Leh to Nubra Valley via Khardung-La | Conquer the Mighty Pass

📍 Leh → Nubra Valley
🚴 Distance: ~130 km | ⏱️ Ride Time: 5–6 hours
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

After an early breakfast, gear up for one of the most thrilling rides of the journey as you ascend towards the legendary Khardung-La Pass — one of the highest motorable roads in the world. The climb tests both rider and machine, rewarding you with dramatic views and a true sense of Himalayan achievement.

Descending from the high pass, the landscape transforms into the breathtaking Nubra Valley, a cold desert cradled between mountain ranges and famous for its surreal white sand dunes.

If time permits, enjoy a unique experience with the region’s iconic double-humped Bactrian camels, found only in this part of the Himalayas.

By evening, settle into your campsite in Nubra, unwind after the long ride, and enjoy a hearty dinner beneath a star-lit Ladakhi sky — a perfect end to an unforgettable day.

Day 4: Nubra Valley to Turtuk | India’s Last Village

📍 Nubra Valley → Turtuk → Nubra Valley
🚴 Distance: ~140 km (round trip)
⏱️ Ride Time: 3–4 hours (one way)
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

After breakfast, set out on a scenic ride towards Turtuk, a hidden gem tucked near the Indo-Pak border and known as India’s last village. The route unfolds along rivers, green valleys, and dramatic mountain backdrops — a refreshing contrast to Ladakh’s rugged terrain.

On reaching Turtuk, immerse yourself in the unique Balti culture, distinctly different from central Ladakh. Wander through charming narrow lanes, interact with warm locals, and admire the lush apricot orchards that add vibrant color to this high-altitude landscape.

Take your time soaking in the stunning views of deep valleys and towering peaks before riding back to Nubra Valley by evening. Unwind at your campsite and enjoy a delicious dinner, reliving the day’s cultural and scenic highlights under the Himalayan sky.

Day 5: Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake | Relive the Bollywood Moments

📍 Nubra Valley → Pangong Lake (via Shyok River)
🚴 Distance: ~230 km | ⏱️ Ride Time: 6–7 hours
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

After an early breakfast, begin one of the most scenic and adventurous rides of the expedition as you travel from Nubra Valley to Pangong Lake via the stunning Shyok River route. This stretch offers raw Himalayan beauty — winding roads, river crossings, and dramatic landscapes that make the journey as memorable as the destination.

By afternoon, arrive at the legendary Pangong Tso, a high-altitude lake famous for its surreal beauty and ever-changing shades of blue, green, and turquoise that shift with the sunlight.

Relive iconic Bollywood moments as you visit popular filming locations from 3 Idiots and capture photos with the famous yellow scooter by the lakeshore.

As evening sets in, settle into your lakeside camp, enjoy a warm dinner, and spend the night beside the tranquil waters of Pangong Lake, under a sky filled with stars — a truly unforgettable Ladakh experience.

Day 6: Pangong Lake to Leh | Chang-La & Rancho School Excursion

📍 Pangong Lake → Leh
🚴 Distance: ~160 km | ⏱️ Ride Time: 6–7 hours
🍽️ Meals: Breakfast & Dinner

Wake up to the serene morning views of Pangong Lake, where the calm waters and surrounding mountains create a picture-perfect start to the day. After breakfast, begin your return ride to Leh, climbing towards the legendary Chang-La Pass — one of the highest motorable roads in the world and a thrilling highlight of the journey.

Descending from Chang-La, ride through scenic valleys and vast plateaus. En route, stop at the iconic Druk White Lotus School, popularly known as Rancho School from the movie 3 Idiots, and relive a touch of Bollywood nostalgia.

If time permits, visit the magnificent Thiksey Monastery, a 12-storey Tibetan Buddhist monastery renowned for its striking architecture, ancient artifacts, and panoramic views of the Indus Valley.

By evening, arrive back in Leh, check in to your hotel, unwind after the long ride, and enjoy a delicious dinner, marking the successful completion of an unforgettable Ladakh expedition with Walking The Himalayas.
