According to the legend related to this journey, when the unique beauty Himalaya (Himwant) daughter Goddess Nanda (Parvati) was going to Kailash with Shiva weeping and struggling, she felt thirsty at one place on the way. 8. Tungnath - Chandrashila & Deoria Tal Trek


When it comes to trekking in Uttarakhand, no one can miss Tungnath and Deoria Tal Trek. Situated at an altitude of 3680 M, Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world located in Uttarakhand. Tungnath is located on Chandranath Parvat and it is also one of the highest temples of Paanch Kedars.​ With its high altitude and alpine meadows, it is also one of the easiest treks to do. There is a well-laid path to Tungnath and you can easily go to the temple, except during winters, when the area is fully covered with snow.

There is a short trek from Chopta to Tungnath. Tungnath is the highest altitude (3600 m) Shiva temple in the world. It is one of the Panch Kedar which is built on Chandrashila Peak. It is said that this temple is 1000 years old and some stories related to it have also been told in Mahabharata.

10. Pushtara Bugyal
