When it comes to trekking in Uttarakhand, no one can miss Tungnath and Deoria Tal Trek. Situated at an altitude of 3680 M, Tungnath is the highest Shiva temple in the world located in Uttarakhand. Tungnath is located on Chandranath Parvat and it is also one of the highest temples of Paanch Kedars. With its high altitude and alpine meadows, it is also one of the easiest treks to do. It is located at a distance of 3 KMs from Chopta market (Starting point of the trek).
Chopta is located at an altitude of 2650 M and is home to some of the beautiful Alpine Meadows and Burhansh Flowers. During winters, you will find heavy snowfall in this region and at that time, the access to the temple becomes hard. There is a well-laid path to Tungnath and you can easily go to the temple, except during winters, when the area is fully covered with snow.
There is a short trek from Chopta to Tungnath. Tungnath is the highest altitude (3600 m) Shiva temple in the world. It is one of the Panch Kedar which is built on Chandrashila Peak. It is said that this temple is 1000 years old and some stories related to it have also been told in Mahabharata.
1 hour from Tungnath is Chandrashila Peak (4130 m) from where a breath-taking view of the Himalayan range and peak is seen. Trekking through Chopta, you will find more than 76 different species of birds in the dense forests. Enjoy the surrounding peaks on this track including Chaukhamba, Nanda Devi, Trishul, Kedar and many more peaks.
You will also see golden breasted eagles on the trek which are found in Himaya itself. Chopta to Tungnath is a 1 to 1.30-hour trek on one side. Chopta from Tungnath can return by evening.
Deoria Tal
Deoria Tal is a beautiful tourist destination located at a distance of 49 km from Rudraprayag district of Uttarkhand. It is a wonderful lake surrounded by lush green forests. The water of this lake reflects the clear image of the Chaukhamba ranges with the peaks of Gangotri, Badrinath, Kedarnath, Yamunotri and Neelkanth.
Situated at an elevation of 2438 meters above sea level, this lake is located at a distance of 2 km from the Chopta-Ukhimath road. The lake provides opportunities to the visitors to come here for boating and watching various birds.
Overnight camping and trekking are popular activities for spectators. Trekkers usually begin the ascent from Chopta, which connects Deoria Tal to the uphill track and Tungnath and Chandrashila to the nearby track.
According to legends, the gods used to bathe in this lake, so it is mentioned in the Puranas as ‘Indra Sarovar’. The sage-sages believe that the 'Yaksha' who questioned the Pandavas during their exile and who care for the natural treasures and tree roots hidden in the earth, lived in this lake.

First time experiences are the most special ones, a little nervous, a little excited. That's what makes a journey memorable. For the people who say Tungnath trek is difficult neither life nor treks are difficult. You only need a good company to accomplish anything in life.
