Roopkund Lake Trek - Uttarakand

There are many pools and lakes under the high Himalayan region, including the huge snow mountain peaks like Nandakot, Nandaghat, and Trishul on the famous Nandadevi Rajajat Yatra route situated at an altitude of 16200 feet above sea level in the borderless Dewal Vikas Khand in Chamoli district of Uttarakhand.


Spread amidst the rocks and boulders, the precious gift of nature and unique beauty spot "Roopkund" is a picturesque place is known for its healthy climate, divine, unique mystical form, and panoramic views. It is 150-200 feet (60 to 70 meters long), 500 feet in circumference, and 40 to 50 meters deep green-blue oval ( eye ) lake in the lap of Trishuli peak (24000 feet). Roopkund Lake is a clean and calm beautiful lake.


The Rupganga stream flows from it. This lake is very popular for its charming shade is the mysterious ancient hell, bones, various tools, clothes, jewellery, utensils, slippers, bones of horses, etc. found around the lake.

This lake is located near Bedni Bugyal in the Chamoli district near Bageshwar in Uttarakhand. Mt. Trishul has three peaks and these peaks are located on the border of the Chamoli district of the Garhwal region and Bageshwar district of the Kumaon region.


The altitude of Roopkund Lake

Roopkund Lake is at an altitude of 4600 meters above sea level and the foothills of the Nandaghunti peak, it is always covered with snow. This is the reason, it is also known as 'Himani Lake'.

How to reach Roopkund Lake?


To reach Roopkund Lake you need to first visit Kathgodam in Uttarakhand. After reaching Kathgodam you can take shared taxis to reach Lohajung.

Roopkund Lake Trek Itinerary

Day 01: Kathgodham To Lohajung

Start early in the morning from Kathgodam. You can to shared taxis from Kathgodam to Lohajung. The distance from Kathgodam to Lohajung is around 250 km and it will take you around 8-9 hours to reach Lohajung.


Lohajung is located at an altitude of 2130 m.


Stay in homestay or camps.


Day 02: Lohajung – Didana

Today you will start your trek early in the morning. You will pass through a mixed forest and you can see a variety of birds and streams.


The trek will take around 5-6 hours to complete and reach Didna Camping Site.


Didna is located at an altitude of 2550 m.


Stay in camps.


Day 03: Didana – Bedni Bugyal Via Ali Bugyal

Start early in the morning so that you can spend some time in Ali and Bedni Bugyal. Today, you will trek for approximately 6-7 hours and pass through the thick oak forest and alpine meadows of Ali Bugyal and Bedni Bugyal.


This is one of the best camping sites in Uttarakhand and you can see the breathtaking view of Mount Trishul.


Bedni Bugyal is located at an altitude of 3150 m.


Stay in camps.


Day 04: Bedni Bugyal – Bhagubasa

Today you will start your trek early in the morning and will pass through meadows and ridge to reach the Kaluvinayak shrine. From here you can see the majestic view of Chaukhambha, Neelkanth, and Hathi Parvati.


It will take you around 6-7 hours to reach the Bagubasa campsite.


Bagubasa is located at an altitude of 3650m.


Stay in camps.


Day 05: Bhagubasa To Roopkund Summit And Return To Patharnachauni

Today's trek will be a climb to Roopkund Lake. It will take around 5-6 hours to reach Roopkund Lake. You can see Ghunti, Trishul, Nanda, and Chaukhambha Parvat.


Patharnachauni will take you around 8-9 hours to reach the campsite at and it will take you around 8-9 hours to reach the campsite at Patharnachauni from Bhagubasa.


Stay in camps.


Day 06: Patharnachauni To Wan And Further Drive To Lohajung

Start your trek early in the morning so that you can spend some time in the beautiful village of Wan.


Drive to Lohajung and Stay in camps or homestay.


Day 07: Lohajung To Kathgodam

Drive back to Kathgodam. Your trip ends here.
