Itinerary

Here is a detailed Markha Valley Trek itinerary:

Day 1: Arrive in Leh
Upon arrival in Leh, check into your hotel and take the day to rest and acclimatize to the high altitude.

Day 2: Sightseeing in Leh
Take a tour of Leh and visit the Leh Palace, Shanti Stupa, and the Leh market. This will help you acclimatize further and get a sense of the local culture.

Day 3: Drive to Chilling and Trek to Skiu (3,360m)
After an early breakfast, drive to Chilling, which is the starting point of the trek. From there, you will start trekking toward Skiu. The trail passes through beautiful landscapes and small villages. You will cross the Zanskar river via a bridge and pass through the villages of Kaya and Skiu before reaching your campsite.

Day 4: Trek from Skiu to Markha (3,930m)
After breakfast, start trekking toward Markha. The trail takes you through beautiful valleys, and you will cross the Markha River a few times before reaching Markha village. You will see the Kang Yatze mountain in the background, and you will pass through the Umlung village before reaching your campsite.

Day 5: Trek from Markha to Thochuntse (4,250m)
Today's trek will take you through beautiful landscapes and offer stunning views of the surrounding mountains. You will cross the river several times and pass through the Hankar village before reaching your campsite at Thochuntse.

Day 6: Trek from Thochuntse to Nimaling (4,700m)
Today's trek will take you through high-altitude meadows and reach Nimaling, which offers breathtaking views of the Kangyatse peak. You will cross the Zalung Karpo La pass, which is the highest pass on the trek.

Day 7: Rest day at Nimaling
Spend the day resting and acclimatizing to the high altitude. You can also take a short hike to get a closer look at Kang Yatze Peak.

Day 8: Trek from Nimaling to Chogdo (3,900m)
Trek towards Chogdo, crossing Kongmaru La, which is the highest pass on the trek. The pass offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. From the pass, the trail descends towards Chogdo, where you will camp for the night.

Day 9: Trek from Chogdo to Shang Sumdo and Drive to Leh
Trek towards Shang Sumdo and drive back to Leh. From Shang Sumdo, you will drive to Leh, where you will check into your hotel and spend the night.

Day 10: Departure from Leh
Depart from Leh for your next destination.

Which is the hardest pass in Ladakh?
