Itinerary of Stok Kangri Expedition

The Stok Kangri Expedition starts from the town of Leh. Leh, the capital city of Ladakh, can be reached by air or by road.

By Air: The Leh Kushok Bakula Rimpochee Airport is the main airport in Ladakh and is well-connected to major cities in India, such as Delhi, Mumbai, Srinagar, and Jammu. Several airlines operate regular flights to Leh, including Air India, GoAir, and Vistara.

By Road: Leh can be reached by road from several cities in India, including Srinagar, Manali, and Delhi. The Manali-Leh highway and the Srinagar-Leh highway are the two main routes to Leh. The roads are open from May to October, and several private and government buses operate on these routes. You can also opt to hire a private taxi or self-drive to Leh. However, the journey by road can be quite challenging due to the high altitude and rough terrain, so it is important to plan and prepare accordingly.

Here is a detailed itinerary for the Stok Kangri trek:

Day 1: Arrival in Leh (3,500m)


- Arrive in Leh by flight and rest for the day to acclimatize to the high altitude.
 

Day 2: Acclimatization Day in Leh


- Take a rest day and explore Leh city to further acclimatize to the high altitude.

Day 3: Leh to Chang Ma (4,000m)


- Drive to Zingchen and start the trek to Chang Ma.
- The trek is a gradual ascent and takes about 4-5 hours.

Day 4: Chang Ma to Mankorma (4,350m)


- Trek from Chang Ma to Mankorma through a steep ascent.
- The trek takes around 5-6 hours.

Day 5: Mankorma to Base Camp (5,200m)


- Trek from Mankorma to the Base Camp of Stok Kangri.
- The trek is a gradual ascent and takes around 4-5 hours.

Day 6: Rest and acclimatization day at Base Camp


- Rest day to acclimatize to the high altitude.
- Take short hikes around the Base Camp.

Day 7: Base Camp to Stok Kangri Advanced Base Camp (5,800m)


- Trek from the Base Camp to Stok Kangri Advanced Base Camp.
- The trek is a steep ascent and takes around 4-5 hours.

Day 8: Rest and acclimatization day at Advanced Base Camp


- Rest day to acclimatize to the high altitude.
- Take short hikes around the Advanced Base Camp.

Day 9: Summit Day – Advanced Base Camp to Summit (6,153m) and back to Base Camp


- Start early in the morning (around 1-2 am) for the summit push.
- Reach the summit of Stok Kangri and descend back to the Base Camp.
- The trek takes around 12-14 hours.

Day 10: Base Camp to Leh


- Trek back to Stok village and drive to Leh.
- The trek takes around 4-5 hours.

Day 11: Departure from Leh


- Depart from Leh for your next destination.
